A girl went to a party and she ended up staying longer than planned, and had to walk home alone. She wasn’t afraid
because it was a small town and she lived only a few blocks away.

As she walked along under the tall elm trees, Diane asked God to keep her safe from harm and danger.

When she reached the alley, which was a short cut to her house, she decided to take it.

However, halfway down the alley she noticed a man standing at the end as though he were waiting for her.

She became uneasy and began to pray, asking for God’s protection.

Instantly a comforting feeling of quietness and security wrapped round her, she felt as though someone was walking with her.

When she reached the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safely.

The following day, she read in the newspaper that a young girl had been raped in the same alley just twenty minutes after she had been there.

Feeling overwhelmed by this tragedy and the fact that it could have been her, she began to weep.

Thanking the Lord for her safety and to help this young woman, she decided to go to the police station.

She felt she could recognize the man,so she told them her story. The police asked her if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could identify him.

She agreed and immediately pointed out the man she had seen in the alley the night before. When the man was told he had been identified, he immediately broke down and confessed.

The officer thanked Diane for her bravery and asked if there was anything they could do for her. She asked if they would ask the man one question.

Diane was curious as to why he had not attacked her.

When the policeman asked him, he answered, “Because she wasn’t alone. She had two tall men walking on either side of her.”

Amazingly, whether you believe or not,you’re never alone. Did you know that 98% of teenagers will not stand up for God?

Carmen ah Carmen. I only blog when something inspires me or i have something to share. And so far, my pathetic existence has nothing to offer. (Beside that fun filled trip with Jasmine which is clearly written out on her blog. Go see!) But while I was doing my PW and reading this book about Abraham Lincoln, i came across one of his favourite poem and it might jolly well be mine too. Here it is. Ponder over it if you will. I thought through it a lot.(Woes of a lit student)

Oh Why Should The Spirit Of Mortal Be Proud
by William Knox(1789-1825)

Oh, why should the spirit of mortal be proud?
Like a swift-fleeting meteor, a fast-flying cloud,
A flash of the lightning, a break of the wave,
He passes from life to his rest in the grave.

The leaves of the oak and the willow shall fade,
Be scattered around, and together be laid;
And the young and the old, the low and the high,
Shall molder to dust, and together shall lie.

The infant a mother attended and loved;
The mother that infant's affection who proved;
The husband, that mother and infant who blessed;
Each, all, are away to their dwelling of rest.

The maid on whose cheek, on whose brow, in whose eye,
Shone beauty and pleasure - her triumphs are by;
And the memory of those who loved her and praised,
Are alike from the minds of the living erased.

The hand of the king that the sceptre hath borne,
The brow of the priest that the mitre hath worn,
The eye of the sage, and the heart of the brave,
Are hidden and lost in the depths of the grave.

The peasant, whose lot was to sow and to reap,
The herdsman, who climbed with his goats up the steep,
The beggar, who wandered in search of his bread,
Have faded away like the grass that we tread.

The saint, who enjoyed the communion of Heaven,
The sinner, who dared to remain unforgiven,
The wise and the foolish, the guilty and just,
Have quietly mingled their bones in the dust.

So the multitude goes - like the flower or the weed
That withers away to let others succeed;
So the multitude comes - even those we behold,
To repeat every tale that has often been told.

For we are the same that our fathers have been;
We see the same sights that our fathers have seen;
We drink the same stream, we feel the same sun,
And run the same course that our fathers have run.

The thoughts we are thinking, our fathers would think;
From the death we are shrinking, our fathers would shrink;
To the life we are clinging, they also would cling -
But it speeds from us all like a bird on the wing.

They loved - but the story we cannot unfold;
They scorned - but the heart of the haughty is cold;
They grieved - but no wail from their slumber will come;
They joyed - but the tongue of their gladness is dumb.

They died - aye, they died - we things that are now,
That walk on the turf that lies over their brow,
And make in their dwellings a transient abode,
Meet the things that they met on their pilgrimage road.

Yea, hope and despondency, pleasure and pain,
Are mingled together in sunshine and rain;
And the smile and the tear, the song and the dirge,
Still follow each other, like surge upon surge.

'Tis the wink of an eye - 'tis the draught of a breath -
From the blossom of health to the paleness of death,
From the gilded saloon to the bier and the shroud
Oh, why should the spirit of mortal be proud?

I way interested in ancient/imperial china.I refer specifically to the romance of three kingdoms and the early part of the Qing Dynasty.

It's quite weird i feel. I think I've always been fascinated by such people, people who were leaders of their time, people who lead extraordinary lives, who suffered great defeats and rose to great prominece. I've always wanted, since i was a little girl, to go back to that era and somehow know those people personally, to understand as a person with all their joys and sorrows, their wins and losses, their grief and joy, aspects that were never written down in historical records. I want to know the truth. The man/woman behind all the motives, lies, stories and words that historians used to describe them.

And throughout all these years, one or rather 2 characters that perpertually distrubed my sanity was and still is, Dorgon, the regent prince from Qing and the tales he had with Xiao Zhuang the Empress Dowager. It's not only their love(or lack thereof. it has never been proven but there's loads of rumors) that makes me interested. More like how such a great man, Dorgon, has continuously failed to get the throne and how, despite having so many wives and concubines, he only had one daugther to his name. How did he died so suddenly on a hunting trip.Was he really the man that gave up everything for Xiao Zhuang that TV programmes have romantized him to be? Or is he the hardcore politian and militant that his opponents make him out to be? The truth(like all truths) is probably somewhere in between but i want to know how in between it is.

As for Xiao Zhuang, it's rather miraculous if you think of it. She wasn't super pretty(though she had class). Her rank wasnt very high though the late emperor doted on her enough. Her son wasn't the oldest, nor was he the youngest, not the brightest and was only 5 years old when he became the emperor. The odds were against him and yet, it was under his reign(although Dorgon did all the work) that China was unified. And there's so many stories on her illicit affair with Dorgon, maybe because of the proximity of their age. Xiao Zhuang is 1 year(born in march) younger than Dorgon(borned in Nov). What ultimately fascinates me is what kind of a woman is she? She witness the reign of 3 emperors. Helped to groomed the child prodigy that was to become Kangxi(the greatest emperor in Qing Dynasty)while never becoming something like Cixi. What is it about this woman that attracts 2 of the most powerful men of her time? I dont think beauty(physical) alone would have suffice.

What is in these great men and women that helped shape the world we are today. Beneath all these glamour, politics and duty, I'm sure there are other stories as well. Stories that were perhaps deemed not important or sotries that perhaps only they themselves know. And I want to know those stories. After all, they were young once. They were idealistic once. They were in love once. Before situations forced them to become who we know them to be. I want to know what the once were and what exactly changed them. I want to know their very soul.

I think I'm mad.

one day of exams and the melancholic xing strikes again. seriously, i think ian and me arent xing and ian anymore. it's becoming more of xingian. like we're not different souls sharing the same body now. it's almost like we've become one.

so anyway, i was just thinking. why would the lovely darlings ever want to be friends with me? i mean, they're smart, artistic, fun and they can take care of themselves so so well. while me? i think i'm a mess through and through. it's like for every friendship that you have, the seperate individuals brings something into the friendship and into the other party's life. but i feel that i have nothing to contribute to this friendship anymore(not that i have any to begin with. but well, maybe it's time i stop deluding myself). it's like whenever carmens or qinyi or linping ask me about something or tell me their problems, i cant really help them much besides feeling really worried/praying for them and i feel so helpless. and when they tell me something good, all i can do is feel really happy for them.

i think they really do deserve so much better.

You know it's scary when you have her number on speed dial while she doesnt even know you exist.

Been studying with sharon(and her friends) for the past 2 days. It's such a nice feeling, the familarity of everything you know and cherish. The tests themselves are killing me though. Supposed to go a-shopping with jas during the hols. I WANT to go shopping with jas during the hols. But i think i'm going to need to lose some weight first. I mean, why buy clothes when you're going to not fit into them later? Wait, but shoes dont change. maybe i shall get myself some shoes (:

Oh, and i gain some weight back. I'm most probably not going to eat(alot) for the rest of the holidays. Yup. Thou shalt not consume food.

Ian says hi. This post if by Ian.

I'm moderately happy that xing has finally chose to become a vegan. Good for her really. Though she still has some trouble with chocolates and icecreams(yes i know. hagen daaz can be a hard habit to kick. and she's a girl that likes her hagen daaz) and her friend chicken but i'm totally a hundred percent supportive of her decision. To kill animals, savagely, brutally and needlessly for the sole purpose of eating them is not only cruel but utterly disgusting and inhumane.

And we've both agreed that we hate Bush.
Yes, the president of the United States of America. George W. Bush. You know what? Sometimes, there are more important things than political power, superficial ideologies and your face Mr Bush sir, what about the suffering in Iraq and Afganistan. What about sovereignity? What about freedom? What about rights? What about the poor in America? What about the homeless? The sick? You're really revolting you know? What have you accomplised for Amercia besides killing sons? What have you done for the world besides creating chaos? Your war on terror should start with you because you are indeed terrible.

On a lighter note, I'm just so happy that Sarkosy got elected. Not that Royal wasnt good, it's just that i think it's time France has a slightly technocratic president dont you think? Royal's kinda nice but Sarkosy looks more like the man to get things done and France does need things to be done. I'll miss Chirac though, I like his multiple power, not pro-US outlook. xing says he's kinda cute in that old blading politician way.
